What can you expect from your treatment?
After your initial consultation, the treatment, timeframe and price to best suit your needs will be recommended to you. It may be necessary to perform a test patch first. An IPL treatment takes approximately 15 to 60 minutes, depending on the area being treated. Photographs may be taken prior to your first treatment for your records so that you can measure results. Hair should be shaven 12 hours before your appointment. Please read here for best pre-treatment and post-treatment recommendations.
A cold gel with then be spread across the treatment area. You will be asked to wear special protection googles over your eyes. The IPL handset is then applied to the skin and flashes of light begin to disable the unwanted hair follicles, vessels or skin flaws, while stimulating collagen production. Finally the gel is removed and a cool towel placed on the area. It is recommended not to have IPL treatment over tattoos as the treatment may burn the pigmentation in the tattoo. A mild amount of discomfort can be expected. Immediately following treatment, the skin may appear red and flushed and tiny capillaries & brown spots may appear more visible. All of these changes gradually fade over a period of hours to a few days and there should be no discomfort.
What will it feel like?
This treatment has been described as similar to being flicked with a heated rubber band. You will feel a short heated pricking sensation. This feeling disappears very quickly. Afterwards you may find the area feels warm or a little sore, similar to a light sunburn feeling. Which is eased by treatment immediately afterwards with cool compresses or cool gel.
Does IPL hair removal work for everyone?
Many people worldwide have experienced excellent results with IPL hair removal. However those who are pregnant are not able to use IPL. Certain medications may interfere with the success of IPL treatment (we will discuss this with you at your consultation). We can not treat skin darker than type 4 and we can not treat grey, red, white or white blonde hair.
How does it work?
Highly controlled flashes of light are selectively absorbed by the hair follicle, destroying blood supply to the area and preventing the hair from regrowing. A series of treatments are required for best results (generally 3-4 week intervals). You have the option to pay upfront for 3 or 6 of these treatments and benefit from our reduced prices.
